Empowering Independence with EQL Threads
Why EQL Threads is one of Adaptiv Discovery's founding brands, and what happened when my grandmother tried her first magnetic-closure tee.

From the moment I met Sandy, the founder of EQL Threads, our connection felt natural. We immediately bonded over being twins, but it was her warmth, enthusiasm, and passion for functional fashion that made me realize how closely our values aligned.
Adaptiv Discovery, a discovery platform for adaptive products, grew from my own family's experiences. Because its purpose is so personal to me, connecting with brands that truly understand the mission has been an important part of building it.
Although Sandy and I live on opposite sides of the country, our partnership has never felt distant. From our earliest conversations, she and her team have been eager to exchange ideas, support Adaptiv, and explore what we could create together. That encouragement has meant so much to me, especially during these early stages.
Adaptiv was created around a simple belief: people shouldn't have to adapt to products; products should adapt to people. EQL Threads brings that belief to life through clothing designed to support independence without sacrificing comfort, style, or self-expression.
Every EQL Threads garment is informed by occupational therapy expertise and a genuine love for thoughtfully designed clothing. The team understands the real challenges people can experience while getting dressed, but they also recognize that clothing is deeply personal. Their pieces are designed to make dressing easier while helping the person wearing them still feel like themselves.
Recently, the EQL Threads team generously gifted my family and me several pieces from their collection. The timing could not have been more meaningful.
Earlier this year, my grandmother, who has always been a fashionista, broke her arm. Suddenly, something as familiar as getting dressed became much more complicated. Her mobility was limited, and she experienced the understandable frustration of needing help with tasks she had previously done independently.
When she tried an adaptive T-shirt from EQL Threads, she was amazed by how much easier its magnetic closures made getting dressed. Her reaction reminded me exactly why adaptive design matters. The right product can do more than simplify a task. It can help someone regain a sense of choice, confidence, and independence when so much else feels outside their control.
That is the discovery gap Adaptiv exists to address. Thoughtful adaptive products are already being created, but the people who could benefit from them do not always know they exist or where to find them.
Choosing Adaptiv's founding brands was never about assembling a long list of companies. I wanted to build genuine relationships with brands helping create the kind of adaptive future we believe in: one rooted in dignity, personal experience, thoughtful design, and community.
EQL Threads embodies those values.
Sandy and her team have made us feel encouraged, welcomed, and genuinely supported. Building something new can sometimes feel isolating, but relationships like this make the adaptive community feel closer and more connected. Despite the physical distance between us, our bond makes it feel as though we are building side by side.
Seeing my grandmother experience the impact of EQL Threads firsthand made this partnership even more personal. It reinforced why EQL Threads belongs among Adaptiv's founding brands, and why I am so excited for everything we will create together.
